How We Work

A professional relationship designed to deepen over time.

For thoughtful, driven people who want more than surface-level solutions.

My practice combines the depth and continuity of psychodynamic psychotherapy with the flexibility of telework. The work is collaborative, individualized, and designed to develop as you do.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy

People rarely arrive to my consultation room with just one problem.

A relationship keeps repeating itself. Success does not feel the way it was supposed to. Anxiety, anger, loneliness, or dissatisfaction persists despite understanding it intellectually. Sometimes life is going well, but there is a growing sense that something important has been left unattended.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy creates room to better understand the patterns, relationships, conflicts, defenses, and experiences that shape the way you live.

The purpose of this work is greater freedom in what you are able to feel, choose, tolerate, pursue, and change.

Ongoing, developmental work

This is psychotherapy meant to deepen over time.

Rather than organizing treatment around a predetermined number of sessions, we follow the work as it develops. What begins as a particular problem often opens into a broader understanding of relationships, identity, ambition, intimacy, meaning, and the kind of life you want to build.

For many people, that means working together over months or years.

The continuity matters. Over time, patterns become easier to see, difficult material becomes possible to approach, and therapy itself becomes a place where new capacities can develop.

A practice built around the individual

Good psychotherapy cannot be reduced to a protocol.

Different people need different things at different times. At times the work may be exploratory and reflective. At others it may be direct, challenging, practical, or focused on a decision that needs to be made now.

The larger aim remains the same: to understand you well enough that the work can respond to the person rather than requiring the person to fit the treatment.

Clinical depth. Online flexibility.

Psychotherapy should be substantial without being unnecessarily difficult to access.

Sessions are conducted online, allowing the work to fit more naturally into demanding careers, travel, family life, and changing schedules while preserving the continuity that deeper psychotherapy requires.

I provide psychotherapy to clients in Ohio and, where permitted, through interstate telepsychology practice.

Consultation

Not every important problem requires psychotherapy.

Consultation is available for individuals looking for focused psychological thinking around a particular problem, transition, relationship, decision, or area of personal or professional life.

Consultation is distinct from psychotherapy: it is more focused in scope and does not establish an ongoing treatment relationship.

Media & speaking

I am also available for podcasts, interviews, panels, and speaking engagements related to psychotherapy, human development, mental health, and the psychology of living well.

Beginning the work

You do not need to know exactly what you need before reaching out.

Tell me a little about what brings you here and what you are looking for. I review inquiries personally. If it seems that I may be able to help, we can talk further and decide together whether working together makes sense.
