Dr. Edward A. Perin

Psychologist · Entrepreneur · Educator

I’ve always been interested in how people become who they are—and what happens when we encounter other people, groups, and institutions that ask us to grow, adapt, or change.

That interest has taken me into psychotherapy, entrepreneurship, organizations, teaching, and the creation of communities where people can think together. This site is where those parts of my work come together.

Psychotherapy

I work with individuals and groups in depth-oriented psychotherapy.

I’m interested in personality, relationships, recurring patterns, unconscious life, and the ways people change over time. Group psychotherapy adds another dimension: the opportunity to see how we actually affect—and are affected by—other people.

Organizations & Entrepreneurship

I’m interested in organizations for many of the same reasons I’m interested in groups.

Businesses develop cultures, hierarchies, loyalties, conflicts, defenses, ambitions, and blind spots. My consulting work focuses on the human side of entrepreneurship and organizational life: leadership, group dynamics, decision-making, structure, technology, and the realities of building something with other people.

Learning Communities

I like bringing people together around ideas.

That can mean teaching, speaking, workshops, professional education, live events, media, or an ongoing group that learns together over time. I’m especially interested in creating environments where people do more than receive information—where conversation, disagreement, curiosity, humor, and relationships become part of the learning itself.

What connects it

Whether I’m working with one person, a psychotherapy group, a business, or a room full of people learning together, I keep returning to many of the same questions: How do people become who they are? What happens between people? What gets in the way of change? And what helps something new become possible?

I’m a psychologist, entrepreneur, and educator. This site is where those parts of my work come together.
